Lenslet VR: Thin, Flat and Wide-FOV Virtual Reality Display Using Fresnel Lens and Lenslet Array

We propose a new thin and flat virtual reality (VR) display design using Fresnel lenslet array, lens, polarization-based optical folding technique. The proposed system has wide field of view (FOV) 102°x102°, eye-box 8.8 mm, an ergonomic eye-relief 20 mm. Simultaneously, only 3.3 mm physical distance is required between the panel so that integrated VR can have compact form factor like sunglasses. Moreover, since all array designed to operate under on-axis condition with low aberration, discontinuous pupil swim distortion lenslets hardly observed. In addition, be identically, reducing production cost, even off-the-shelf optics used. this paper, we introduce how parameters analyze performance. Finally, demonstrate two prototypes experimentally verify expected performance while having glasses-like factor.
